On the Run

Quite a large Domo-Kun.

 

The Domo-Kun toy / figure from Japan took the world by storm, capturing the hearts of many children along the way, mine included. What made it so immensely popular is its simple design, a little aggressive at first, yet likable and affable. This turned Domo into a source of encouragement for many people as they can regain the fighting spirit that Domo encompasses.

But why the sudden talk of Domo?

Along the way we may face many challenges, to relationships, to work, to our beliefs, and things may not seem what they seem like at first. People change and beliefs alter. However the world still revolves and the sun still rises everyday. What matters most is that we stand fervently by our principles and do what we think is right. We don’t let ourselves down, and we don’t regret. Most importantly, we can just let go and be ourselves. When something / someone did not seem to be in sync to what you had expected, reflect a little, or more if needed, and ask whether the crucial piece of the puzzle lies in your hand. If not, take a step back and walk on. It’s not your fault, you had tried to save things, and things / people are constantly dynamic.

Shed the (fill in the blanks) and be yourself.

On a side note, we cannot take things for granted. Living in peaceful and calm Singapore may appear boring to some, but at least we don’t consider burning mosques, workers’ strikes and airport shutdowns as exciting, do we? Live goes on everyday normally, and at least we are safe. We can go out partying and BBQ till late and pass midnight, and still feel safe on our way home. We can walk in the streets at night and have total faith in the security guaranteed by the police. Such ‘phenomenon’ is practically unheard of in many other countries, such as the gun-loving US, or the bomb-loving Pakistan, or even other developing and developed countries. Safety and freedom. I rather sacrifice a little freedom for more safety. So enough talk from the West about our democracy and press freedom and what not.

After all, we all want to stay alive for tomorrow, and tomorrow’s tomorrow, and many more tomorrows right!
